The Whaling Industry Museum, formerly known as the Whale Factory (Fábrica da Baleia Armações Baleeiras Reunidas, Lda.), in São Roque do Pico, is the first public industrial museum in the Azores. The Sociedade das Armações Baleeiras Reunidas, Lda., established in 1942, coordinated two production systems: whaling (sperm whale hunting) and manufacturing of its byproducts, as well as their subsequent trade. This factory, the largest and most significant processing complex for sperm whales in the Azores, operated between 1946 and 1984. It stands as an industrial structure, encompassing a total area of approximately 1200m2.
